We have put together an experienced and well respected team of health and safety professionals to deliver the qualifications with backgrounds in Manufacturing , Construction, Sport and Transport industries to name a few .   

 

NVQ Overview

A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a qualification that recognises the competence of a person in a work situation. Unlike traditional qualifications that rely on teaching and examinations, NVQs give you credit for what you do on your job role on a day to day basis.

Who are these qualifications for?

The OCR Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is suitable for those whose role includes the area of general health and safety practice such as site supervisors, safety officers who anyone with implementing and communicating health and safety in the work place. All such practitioners are involved in the assessment of risks, the identification of hazards and determining strategies for control.

Your responsibilities will extend to activities such as delivering inductions, toolbox talks, safety audits/checks/inspections, carrying out risk assessments, providing on the job training, supervising the use of new equipment or monitor the use of new techniques etc. 

 

The OCR Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Occupataional Health and Safety is suitable for those whose role OCR NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice qualification is suitable for those who are working in the area of general health and safety practice or managing the health and safety function.

As this qualification s are work based, and involves the collection of work evidence from your normal day to day activities, candidates must be in a role that allows them to provide this. This will probably be individuals who have already acquired some experience, and candidates must be in a health and safety supervisor position for level 3, and either a Manergaeial health and safety role or a health and safety practioner for the level 5 diploma where you will be able to influence the policy and practice of an organisation.

Anyone having undertook the CITB/CSR Site Safety Course, NEBOSH certificate can undertake the program to demonstrate how their academic learning transfers into the workplace and real practice. The qualification is idela for anyone working as a part of the health and safety team that work to third party accredtataions in health and safety such as Safety-T-Cert or ISO. If you're a site supervisor or member of staff with the level of health and safety respsonsibilities listed above then this qualification wil provide you with professional recognition for your role.

Who recognises the Qualifcations?

The Level 3 Certficate is recognised by employers as the professional standard for managers with responsibility for aspects of health and safety in the workplace and accredited by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) at Level 3.

It is also recognised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) as meeting the academic requirement for membership of the Institution at Technician Level (Tech IOSH). Holders of the Level 3 Certificate may also apply for associate membership of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

Upon successful completion of the OCR NVQ Level 5 in Management of Health and Safety qualification may apply to the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) for membership at Graduate level membership (GradIOSH) and upon completion of an open book assessment and a minimum of 2 years Initial professional Development (IPD), candidates can achieve Chartered level membership (CMIOSH).

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements while candidates must be working in a role that reflects the level of qualification they wish to achieve and carrying out the duties to meet the notational occupational standards.

Candidates should also have a sound standard of English such that they can understand and articulate all the required the assessment criteria.

How are they delivered?

The qualifications are work base qualification and all assessments are based on evidence from the work place. The assessments methods used to gather evidence include:

For assessment against NOS the most appropriate methods to gather

  • performance evidence
  • evidence of knowledge and understanding; are

Evidence of effective performance may come from:

  • observation (by an assessor or by an expert witness)
    • Observation is a key method of gathering evidence for assessment because it enables the assessor to see how the individual carries out his / her role in its entirety. All qualifications must be observed on a minimum of two separate occasions.
  • documentation / records (completed by the individual as part of his / her work)
  • video / audio recording by assessor
  • Professional Discussion (a guided discussion between the assessor and individual)
  • Personal Statements or reflective accounts of actual events
  • witness testimony
    • Sometimes it is difficult or inappropriate to arrange an observation. In these circumstances, witness testimony can make a particularly useful contribution to assessment

Evidence of knowledge and understanding may come from:

  • Observation ( from the way he / she carries out their work)
  • Answers to questions posed at the time
  • Professional discussion (a guided discussion between the assessor and individual)
  • answers to questions away from work
  • Individual's reflection
  • Results from knowledge checks / exams / written assignments

We run 4 workshops to support the delivery of the qualification, these are designed to refresh or update your knowledge and understanding to the national occupational standards in Health and Safety. The workshops are optional and you do not have to attend or wait to enrol or undertake the qualification. We offer a rolling enrolment throughout the year.
